A key theme is also, that the price of natural gas has increased significantly which means, that the heat generation and cogeneration by only natural gas, gives even harder pressure on the heat prices. Therefore solar district heating plants get larger and larger and the interest in seasonal heat storage is steadily increasing. Currently Marstal District Heating is establishing a new pit storage facility and Brædstrup district heating is drilling holes for a pilot borehole storage. Another interesting theme is, that an incipient interest from institutional investors to invest in large solar systems is coming up - completely in line with the developments in the wind sector.

The status in Denmark is at the time, that there are around 140000 m² of solar thermal in context to district heating in service and around 220000 m² are planned. Most of the new and planned plants are established in connection with CHP.
